Description of jobs
The duties of the university researchers, postdoctoral researchers and doctoral students consist in research according to their own research plans, which are required to relate to the overall themes and goals of the Centre in question. They are also expected to take part in the CoE’s activities, both nationally and internationally. Doctoral students are expected to participate in the postgraduate training and must complete their studies in accordance with the currently valid regulations for the doctoral programme http://www.helsinki.fi/teol/tdk/english/studies/pg_degree_programmes.htm at the Faculty of Theology. All appointees will be under the annual workload system in use in Finnish universities (1,624 hours/year). They are also expected to teach 5 to 10 % of their annual workload and must submit an annual report on their activities.
Requirements and selection criteria
An appointee to the position of university researcher shall hold a doctoral degree and have evidence of scholarly research work as well as the teaching skills necessary for the position. The position shall also require the ability to lead a research group and obtain supplementary research funding.
An appointee to the position of postdoctoral researcher shall hold a doctoral degree (completed before beginning in the position), have the ability to conduct independent scholarly work and have the teaching skills necessary for the position.
An appointee to the position of doctoral student shall hold a second-cycle degree and have an approved research proposal as well as ability and motivation, as demonstrated in previous degree studies or otherwise, to pursue postgraduate studies and a doctoral degree according to the study plan and research proposal. If the appointee has not yet been granted the right to pursue a postgraduate degree in the field of theology, religious studies or in another field relevant to the position at the University of Helsinki, she or he must apply for this right as soon as possible.
All applicants must have good English skills. Finnish citizens must be competent in Finnish and have at least satisfactory spoken and written skills in Swedish. Foreign citizens, non-native Finnish citizens or citizens who have not been educated in Finnish or Swedish may be exempted from the requirement of Finnish and Swedish languages without a separate application.
The evaluation of applications is based on the following criteria: 1) the scientific merits and other academic qualifications in relation to the applicant’s level of seniority and 2) the significance of the research proposal to the CoE’s overall theme.
